entering the livestock competitions as a
kid and a member of 4-H. “I’ve only ever

After graduating from the University of
Florida, Dan moved back to Palmetto and
started a job at Manatee Fruit Company.

as an Agriculture teacher at Palmetto
High School which led to him to once

livestock program.
After eight years teaching, Dan received
a call from the long time Manatee County
Fair Manager, Bill Rickly.
one day and asked if I’d like to learn

was hooked. I worked part time as his
assistant for two years, learning all the
aspects of running the fair. And, in 2003,
Mr. Rickly decided to retire.”
