To Our Readers
Welcome to year five of the South
Shore Coalition for Mental Health and
Aging Community Resource Guide!
Since part of our mission is to share
resources with those who might
find themselves in need, compiling
the contents of this guide has been
a natural, ever-evolving project.
As resources are uncovered during
the year, they are added to our
constantly updated document. It is
then distributed during the month of
October each year in the printed form
you see here. You can find the guides
throughout the year at local libraries,
chambers of commerce, physician
offices, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s
Office, Sun City Center Community
Association Information Center, Kings
Point, and more.
We are blessed in South Shore
to have more than 350 nonprofit
organizations. Many offer some type
of assistance to our residents and are
willing to coordinate with other non-
profit organizations in order to fulfill
the needs of our community.
A great example of the generosity in
South Shore comes our way from the
Men’s Club of Sun City Center. Once
again, the club is contributing funds to
make it possible for 10,000 copies of
this guide to be delivered to the doors
of residents in Sun City Center as an
insert in the Observer Newspaper. Do
you see a trend of local organizations
cooperating to meet needs?
Another community partner is
the Sun City Emergency Squad. Not
only does the Squad provide hands
on assistance when a resident cries
out for help, it also works with other
organizations to provide educational
symposiums throughout the year on
behalf of better health.
Connecting the dots when someone
is in need is not always easy. If you
have ever cared for an aging parent or
declining spouse, you know the time it
takes to hunt down a solution for the
simplest of needs. Need wheelchair
transportation to a doctor visit? Have
increasing medical bills and now need
assistance with food? Are you grieving
over the loss of a loved one and don’t
know where to turn for answers?
For any of these, there are options to
consider within the pages of our guide.
Once you share a resource with
someone, we are hopeful you will do it
again and again. If you come across a
resource not listed in our guide while
caring for your loved one or friend, we
ask you to share that information with
us too! Together we can maintain a
comprehensive source of assistance at
our fingertips.
Be sure to read the editorials
inside from some of our local
organizations who are doing great
things in South Shore. From the
Wimauma Opportunity Center to the
Ruskin Community Development
Foundation, South Shore is wealthy in
its ability to provide for the needs of
our residents.
