Arts). At that point, Lisa began performing
for a wide array of audiences around the
country. As a senior in high school, Lisa
accompanied the McDonogh #35 Choir on
their first trip abroad to London, Holland
and Paris.
By this time, music seemed to be fully
embedded into her DNA. Moving forward
toward her goals in the footsteps of her
mother, Lisa followed her talents to Dillard
University where she pursued an arts degree.
Upon entering college, Lisa decided to join
the Dillard University Concert Choir under
the direction of S. Carver Davenport where
she continued her travels all over the United
States.
Lisa’s talents grew tremendously throughout
her college years. The young woman who
was born and raised in the Lower 9th Ward
found her horizon expanding as she began to
train vocally in different forms of music: from
jazz, to one of the oldest vocal forms, opera.
Studying opera afforded Lisa the opportunity
to sing in multiple languages, including
Spanish, German, French, Portuguese and
Norwegian. Then she went on to receive
her Bachelor of Arts from Dillard University
and a degree in Business Management from
Loyola University of New Orleans.
Over time, Lisa began to make a name
for herself and with that status she needed
a name that suited her musical talent, and
more importantly, her vocal ability. She began
going by the name “Singin’ Lisa” and the rest
is history.
She became a recording member of the
well-known local group, Raymond Anthony
Myles & The RAMS.
That gig, along with others, put her on
the road again as she returned to traveling
around the world. These sojourns brought
her back abroad to sing and record with the
three-time Big Easy Award-winning group,
One A-Chord, and its founder and director,
Betty Winn.
“When I can use the God-given gifts to
touch the lives of others for amazing and
positive outcomes it is a fulfillment that can
only be divine,” Lisa said.
After garnering much success as a recording
artist and worldwide performer, Lisa
turned to radio to get her talent and message
out to a wider audience. The idea of joining
a radio station wasn’t just a farfetched goal
for her. She gained interest in radio years
earlier when she was a guest on the Dillard
University station while attending college.
“Radio allowed me to develop my communications
skills,” she noted.
Singin’ Lisa has used her career as a radio
personality or “Radio Angel’’ to share the love
of Jesus to other believers and those who
would come to know Christ Jesus through
the airwaves. “On radio I get to talk to a
multitude in minutes about life; the great,
the good, the bad, the tragic and the miraculous,”
is featured on the song "LIFT" by The Revolt,
which is a part of a social music project titled
she said.
“The Red Card Music Project: Volume 1,”
with the organization “Show Racism The Red
Card” (theredcard.org).
Lisa has worked with the Special Needs
population in several roles at The Arc of
Greater New Orleans for the last 30 years.
Her life has been immensely affected by the
unique individuals she has had the pleasure
to serve.
“The years of my life going forward will
continue to involve ministering in song and
worship,” said Lisa. “Serving others in the
life I live daily to the best of my ability is
my goal.”
Singin’ Lisa has spent her life knowing,
aiming and achieving her goals. Through all
of her travels and performances, along with
her time in radio, she has earned every bit
of success that has come her way. Through
it all, Lisa admits that she “most treasures”
those Sunday mornings in the choir at
Branch Bell B.C. where she sat next to her
beloved mother, Emma Skipper Phillips.
While Emma lived a full 92 years of life,
Lisa misses her mother daily, saying “She
was extremely important to me and she was
always my biggest cheerleader.”
Continuing into her purpose, Lisa lives
by a scripture that seems to fit her and her
lifestyle perfectly, Romans 8:28 which reads,
“And we know that, in all things, God works
for the good of those who love Him, who
have been called according to His purpose.”
As she continues to inspire others through
her voice, worship and accolades, her biggest
advice is for the dreamers stating, “Never give
up on your dreams. You were created for a
purpose no matter what challenges you face
in life. The end result will honor the Creator
Lisa's mother, Emma Skipper Phillips
and designer of your life.” Her first radio job was at KKNO
Unmistakably Christian Radio with Prophet
Robert C. Blakes Sr. and First Lady Lois R.
Blakes. After about nine years, Lisa moved
on from there to join the iHeart Media
team where she has been ever since. As she
explained, “There I could continue to honor
God through words of encouragement which
inspire many listeners to this day.”
Now, as a fully established radio personality,
Lisa has spent the last 20 years working
at the Stellar Award-winning Radio Station
Hallelujah WYLD, 940 AM. She is also been
co-producer, with Harold “Hal” Clark, of the
award-winning “Sunday Journal” on FM98
WYLD. Along with radio, she continues to
host programs and use her gift of singing at
many events.
Most recently, Singin’ Lisa has teamed
up with Supernatural INC which is a
Multimedia Platform affiliated with the
legendary Chuck D of Public Enemy. She
