WDSU
head
committed
to helping
New
Orleans in
many ways
By Dean M. Shapiro
For someone in the media management
profession, the job often entails moving
around from city to city, especially when
that someone is affiliated with a corporate
media management company.
Joel Vilmenay has had that experience –
many times.
However, his most recent move, the
one that brought him to New Orleans in
2007 as President and General Manager of
WDSU-TV, has given him a sense of stability
to which he hadn’t been previously accustomed.
To date, over his lengthy career, this
has been the longest continuous tenure he
has enjoyed in any one particular location.
Over the course of those years, Joel has
become fully assimilated into the social
and cultural fabric of his adopted city. And
he is enjoying it very much. Not only is he
overseeing the day-to-day operations of New
Orleans’ longest-running television station,
he has also gotten married since moving here
and is raising a family while getting involved
in many cultural and civic organizations and
charitable causes that are close to the hearts
of New Orleanians.
