But, overall, Joel sees his number one objective at WDSU as
being “to continue covering the most important issues affecting
our community and Southeast Louisiana and then to deliver that
content through the new platforms that our viewers are adopting,”
including their mobile devices.
“Linear television as we know it continues to be a path for a
lot of viewers and we’re going to continue to deliver that content
through those platforms,” he added. “But, as new technologies
emerge, WDSU will continue to serve the local communities and
ensure that we have the resources necessary to cover the stories
affecting our community.”
In addition to his behind-the-scenes role at the station, Joel is
also out in front of the cameras with on-air editorials commenting
on major issues affecting the city, the state, the nation and
world at-large.
At home with his family, which includes his wife, Shirelle, and
their children, 10-year-old Alexia and 6-year-old Langston, Joel
occasionally entertains them with tunes on his trumpet and other
family-related activities. Even at their young ages, the children
are showing interest in various endeavors: Alexia in theatre and
acting, Langston in gymnastics, according to Joel. Both children

Summing up his feelings about the city where he has spent
more than a dozen years planting family roots and becoming fully
immersed in the community, Joel had the following to say: “It’s
been great to be here and, while I’m here, I’m committed to helping
New Orleans be the best it can be. It’s a very special place
and I’m trying to contribute in any way I can.”
