sentiments in it. Stay safe.
The times we are living in require the use of strengths that we did not even know we
have. Being positive, optimistic, and thankful for our health, and the wellbeing of our loved
ones has never been more clear, for there are many who are not so fortunate right now.
The other day, as I was coming out of the supermarket, a stranger walking in front
of me suddenly stopped, and with a big smile on his face asked me how I was doing. I
smiled back and replied that I was doing fine, and I asked him how he was doing. He
looked at me and said, “Aren’t we ok?” And putting his hands up in the air he said with
great joy, “We are not in the hospital” And just like that, he turned away and left. He will
never know what a lesson and reality check he gave me at that very moment.
Ever since the whole COVID-19 tragedy started, I have been the one running
errands, making sure we have the essentials we need, while working from home and
going to the office for things that require my presence. Driving back home from my
encounter with that stranger, I reflected on his words and it humbled me and made me
deeply appreciate my blessings. None of our family members or anyone in our staff or their
loved ones are in the hospital.
Ever since the news about COVID-19 pandemic started, I have been trying to stay
informed and get all the updates on the situation, but that brief encounter with that stranger
also made me realize how important it is to avoid becoming obsessed with what is going
on. We can only pray for those who have lost loved ones or for those battling for their lives
in hospitals or at home, not just here in the U.S., but all over the world. We can only pray
for our first respondents, in uniform and white gowns fighting this war, and help them by
staying home and follow the recommendations of the experts. I miss my kids terribly, and
I miss our family dinners at home, even if those gatherings invite chaos too with all our four
dogs running around. I miss the calming and soothing feeling that a hug from loved ones
and friends gives to my soul. However, until we can bring “normality” back, we need to stay
in one place. We pray that you and your loved ones are also safe and that we will all be
able to hug our loved ones again soon.
