When asked to write, 500
words or less, the history of the
Ruskin Community Development
Foundation, I thought how do
you compress 25 years into several
paragraphs? Well here goes… The
RCDF is an All-Volunteer notfor
profit 501c3, pursuing our
mission “to develop and improve
the community”. We actively
participated in the creation of the
award winning Ruskin Community
Plan and continue to support the
goals: (1) Revitalize the Ruskin
Downtown (2) Protect and enhance
Ruskin’s natural environment (3)
Promote Eco-Tourism (4) Promote
Ruskin’s historic character and
culture (5) Promote economic
development that is compatible
with our community (6) Protect our
community’s character and quality
of life as we grow.
Over the years our mission has
re-established the Ruskin Tomato
& Heritage Festival, created Camp
Bayou Environmental Learning
Center, as well as, The Charlie
and Shirley Riddle Scholarship
Fund, built the Boardwalk at
Commongood Park, initiated the
Restoration of Marsh Creek and
established The Firehouse Cultural
Center. Countless donations have
been made to other organizations
whose mission coincides with ours
to protect and support our quality of
life. Since space is limited I have only
touched on the
highlights!
In closing I
want to make
an appeal for all
non-profit organizations who
serve the SouthShore community.
Covid-19 has cancelled critical
fundraising events creating a
huge financial burden to continue
their services, many of which,
are dependent upon by our most
vulnerable. If you can find it in your
heart to give there are plenty to
choose from in this Resource Guide.
Thank you and God Bless.
