s we begin to come out of our “cocoons,” many parts of our country
continue to battle the Coronavirus indicating that much progress needs
to be made. As the Delta variance of the virus spreads, many of us,
including myself (already fully vaccinated), continue to wear our masks in public
places and sanitize as often as possible. Evidently, this will be one of the results
of the pandemic, better safe than sorry. Conferences are beginning if not already
taking place, some without any protection. We hope that the result of these live
events will not cause another wave of sickness to spread around the country.
We at LATINA Style, after consulting with our partners and followers, have
decided that at this time for the remainig of the year, will continue to be virtual,
so more zooms are coming your way. Although we are trying to innovate
the experience, nothing can replace the person-to-person meetings with the
accompanying hugs.
In this issue of LATINA Style, we are proud to have collaborated with NASA
in bringing you a profile of the extraordinary Latinas working on their many
programs. Whether collaborating on our space program to Mars, returning to the
moon, exploring outer space or even science projects right here on earth, Latinas
have been taking an increasing role in the success of these missions. We hope
to keep you abreast of their accomplishments throughout the year.
We are also delighted to bring you a recap of the LATINA Style 50 Awards and
Diversity Leaders Conference. Our largest audience ever for the conference was
attained when Latinas from all over the country and even abroad logged in to the
event. Thank you all for your participation; it was amazing. Bank of America was
recognized as the 2020 Company of the Year, Claudia San Pedro from SONIC
Drive-In received the 2020 LATINA Executive of the Year award and Wells Fargo’s
Latin Connection was the recipient of the 2020 Employee Resource Group of the

A very sad occurrence took place when we lost Monica Martinez this past
May. A wonderful Latina leader, an inspiration to so many, and a great friend and
champion. We will miss her dearly, but we know her spirit will go on all of us who
had the privilege to be her friend and colleague. God speed my friend, we will
miss you.
