In April more than 100 students, staff , and community members watched as 14 pallets containing more than 8,000 pounds of plastic bottle caps were loaded into a truck headed for a recycling facility in Kentucky. There, the caps were sold as part of the Caps of Love program, with all proceeds going to the purchase of new and refurbished wheelchairs for children with mobility disabilities. The caps were collected at various sites at University Campus. From April to June, students and staff members at the Fort Eustis (VA) Offi ce donated books to a literacy outreach program called Books on Bikes. This community outreach project involved teachers from Newport News elementary schools riding bikes into local neighborhoods, handing out ice pops, reading to kids, and giving out books. Local teachers gathered at University Campus in June to learn about the latest technology they can use in their classrooms. On July 11, the Saint Leo community witnessed the Profession of Simple Vows ceremony for Brother Lucius Amarillas ’18 at the Saint Leo Abbey Church. Saint Leo University SPIRIT.SAINTLEO.EDU 21
