N TIP NOTE: Since we cut the stitches from the back of 56 Repeat steps J-N to complete your next rag appliqué. The completed design should look like this. You’re now finished with your machine steps. Proceed with your appliqué basting stitch. We use the basting stitch for two reasons: 1: It gives our ragged edge appliqués a perfect ¹/₂” seam allowance; 2: Basting stitches are easy to remove. Flip your hoop to the front and remove the threads from the basting stitches on both appliqués. STABILIZER TIP Once trimmed, your ragged edge appliqué will look like this. We’re now ready to trim our appliqué fabric down to the basting stitches. Be careful when trimming, as it is easy to cut past the basting stitch. NOTIONS TIP Next we will be removing the basting stitches from our design and Anita has a helpful tip for you! By turning to the back of our hoop, we’re able to remove those basting stitches much easier! Take your seam ripper and cut all basting stitches from both appliqués.
