I remember being at a party last year where there were quite a few artists in attendance - traditional artists like painters and sculptors, discussing their work and techniques. What I do for a living came up in conversation. I explained that I am an embroidery artist that uses thread and fabric to create art using quilts and other objects as the final medium. The artists in attendance asked a lot of questions and were impressed with what I do. However, there were a few people there that said the pieces I created were not art, they were crafts. As you can imagine a long discussion ensued about the difference between art and arts & crafts. I believe, and anyone that has ever heard me discuss embroidery knows that I think machine embroidery is an art form, and our machines and software are no different than an artist and his brush.
