Dream Kid Experience Takes Boy, 5, To Carolina South District Office Kapping Rogers Brody Thornburg isn’t afraid to teach NFL players a thing or two about being #BrodyManStrong. Though the 5-year-old lives with severe aplastic anemia, a rare blood disorder that recently forced him to undergo his second bone marrow transplant, he was recently up for experiencing life as a Dream Kid. A guest of Dream on 3, a nonprofit founded by Carolina South District Sales Manager Brandon Lindsey that provides memorable sports-related experiences to children with life-changing medical conditions, Brody began his Dream Kid adventure at the Joe Maus Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament, where he teed off with members of the Carolina Panthers. Also part of the experience was a visit to Martin Marietta’s Carolina South District office in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Brody and his family were greeted by a cheering team of Martin employees holding #BrodyManStrong signs. Later, the Dream Kid traveled to Bank of America Stadium to watch his favorite team take on the Houston Texans in a preseason matchup. Area Production Manager Scott Ellis, Brody’s grandfather, said the day is one Brody will always remember. “The most positive aspect of Dream on 3’s mission is that they make these kids, who at times feel ‘different’ because of their illness, feel ‘special’ instead,” Ellis said. “I’m grateful that Martin Marietta was Brody’s sponsor and that so many of my co-workers and friends were there to see him off. According to Brody, it was ‘the best day ever’ and that says it all.” Company Teams Honored for Environmental Excellence Martin Marietta is well represented among the latest slate of National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) Environmental Excellence award winners.
