Caspersen Beach
Seeking seclusion? Caspersen Beach on Venice
Island is nationally certified as a “Blue Wave”
beach by the Clean Beaches Council, and is
celebrated for its unspoiled nature. Wildlife
viewing; shelling; shark tooth hunting; and
long, uninterrupted beach walks (at four miles,
Caspersen is the longest beach in Sarasota
County) are popular activities on this off-thebeaten
path beach.
Nokomis Beach and North Jetty Park
arasota’s oldest public beach,
Nokomis Beach is located south
of Siesta Key on the barrier island
of Casey Key. This lesser-known
beach holds one tremendous
secret: it offers some of the best
seashell hunting on the Gulf
Coast. Nokomis Beach hosts
a drum circle every Wednesday
and Saturday evening.
Located on the south end of
Casey Key, North Jetty Park is a
popular fishing spot for beachside
anglers. Pick up snacks, beer and
bait from the North Jetty Fish Camp bait shop
and set up a rod and reel, or kick back under
the shady pines and watch the boats on the
Intracoastal Waterway with a hot dog from the
concession stand.
Manasota Beach and Blind Pass Beach
It’s worth the trip to the far south end of
Sarasota County to spend time on Manasota
Key for quiet, “Old Florida”-style fun in the
sun. There’s plenty of space on the secluded
Manasota Beach for swimming, fishing and
beachcombing.
Both beaches on Manasota Key are lined
with sand dunes and sea oats, providing a
setting for some of the most natural, “Old
Florida” beach experiences on the Gulf Coast.
Blind Pass Beach, in particular, offers fantastic
beach-to-bay access, shelling, boating and
fishing. This southernmost beach in Sarasota
County is located near the historic Hermitage
Artist Retreat, which offers frequent, free-tothe
public beach performances and readings
by its resident artists.
