Mission: The Nebraska Paralegal Association (NePA)
is committed to: establishing fellowship among its
members, NALA, and members of the legal community;
encouraging a high order of ethical and professional
attainment; furthering education of members of the
profession; supporting and carrying out the programs,
purposes, aims, and goals of NALA, NePA, and the public
through discussion, study, seminars, and publications; and
generally promoting the paralegal profession in the state
of Nebraska.
Pro Bono Activities: NePA is a proud sponsor of the
Omaha Bar Association Law Day Event and serves as a
judge for its annual Law Day Poster Contest, and NePA
members have served as Court Appointed Special
Advocate (CASA) volunteers.
Community Service Activities: NePA and its members
serve their communities through numerous activities,
including:
Participating in the Relay for Life of Sarpy County
to benefit The American Cancer Society
Providing substantial donations to the Women’s
Center for Advancement Career Closet
Adopting multiple families each year in the
Salvation Army’s Christmas Adopt-a-Family Program
Donating business dress clothing to
Lydia House – Work Net
Membership Benefits: NePa provides its
members many benefits including, InBrief,
its quarterly newsletter; a free annual Spring
CLE seminar and a reduced price Fall CLE
seminar; reduced price monthly informative
luncheons for District 1 members; quarterly
informative luncheons for District 2
members; an online job board; mentoring
support; and networking opportunities
throughout the year. Annual membership
dues are $65 for active and associate
members and $40 for distance members; student
membership is free for those who meet the
student membership eligibility requirements.
NePA also offers
its members
three scholarship
opportunities, one
each for members who wish to take NALA’s Certified
Paralegal exam (CP) or Advanced Certified Paralegal
(ACP) exam, as well as the NePA Student Education
Award which is open to NePA members and
Nebraska residents who are currently enrolled in an
accredited paralegal program at a university, college,
community college or business college located in
Nebraska. Recipients of the CP and ACP scholarships
receive funds to cover the costs of examination fees.
Recipients of the Student Education Award receive
$500 towards their tuition.
Events: NePA hosts a number of events throughout
the year, including its Annual Recognition Breakfast
which recognizes the important role of paralegals
in the legal community; annual Spring Seminar
and Mid-Year Meeting and Fall Seminar and
Annual Meeting, which provide members with
CLE opportunities to maintain their certification;
monthly luncheons in Omaha and quarterly
luncheons in Lincoln featuring speakers on
topics of interests to paralegals; and after hours
networking and social events.
Highlights: NePA celebrated its 40th Anniversary
in August 2016, and received a proclamation from
Governor Pete Ricketts honoring NePA’s service to
the paralegal profession and legal community. NePA
members have served nationally on NALA’s board of
directors as officers, including president, or in other
positions. NePA is also proud to have been selected
for NALA’s Affiliated Association Presentation, both
in 2016 – “Putting on Fantastic Seminars,” by Laurie
Vik and Mindy Ware – and in 2017 – “Not Your Typical
Newsletter: Communicating with Members in the
Digital Age,” by Kim Brown and Amber Roberts.
