Ways to Use Essential Oils
DIFFUSION
Add 3-5 drops of essential oil per 100 mL of water to the
PURELY™ diffuser. Diffusing is a simple and effective way to
use essential oils. Oils are dispersed in a micro-fine vapor,
allowing them to remain suspended in the air for extended
periods of time. The diffuser disperses the oils without
heating them so they retain their therapeutic benefits. When
inhaled, the oils are easily absorbed through the lungs.
Depending on the oil used, diffusing can cleanse the air of
odor, calm overactive children, and support respiration.
BATH
Add 5-10 drops of essential oil to 1 ounce carrier oil. Add
this blend to your running bath water and mix well before
getting into the tub.
TOPICAL
Perhaps even more common than inhalation, topical
application is the preferred method of use for many
essential oils. However, MOST essential oils require
significant dilution as they can cause skin irritation. Be
sure to test for sensitivity. To use with a carrier oil or lotion

INGEST

consumption of oils is a personal choice, and we cannot
make that decision for you. God gave us plants for medicinal
uses, and the benefits of plant oils are amazing, however
you choose to use them. Depending on what you are
treating, topical application or inhalation may be more

have some reservations about the ingesting of oils, and we
recommend seeking the advice of a medical professional.
Educating yourself on the proper ways to safely use
essential oils is very important. Always be sure to follow
the directions on the labels for safe methods of use. Many
people do use oils in this way while others recommend
using oils topically or by inhalation.
SENSITIVE
Oils with this symbol should be properly diluted and tested
in a small area prior to full use. This is especially important
for use with all children. Usually denotes a “hot oil.” Avoid
prolonged exposure to the sun for at least 12 hours after
applying citrus oils with this symbol. To use with a carrier
oil, please see the dilution table on page 43.
STEAM
Add 2-3 drops of essential oil to a steamy cup of water and
inhale for a method of introducing warm, moist air into the
lungs via the nose and throat for therapeutic benefit. This
moist air can alleviate difficult breathing and inflammation
as well as increase circulation and help prevent excessive
drying of mucus membranes.
