#1 Lip Smackin’ Barbecue
(Blue Ridge Mountain Bar-B-Q, 3870 E.
First St.) — “Tongue Waggin’ Down-Home
Good” is the motto here, and it applies to
everything from the Hog Heaven BBQ plate to
Bob’s hickory smoked chicken salad. Come in
and set a spell to enjoy a rack of ribs or hit the
drive-through for some take-home. Barbecue
is available by the half and full pound, and
sides by the pint, quart and gallon.
Mix a little mountain air with
some outdoor activity and, suddenly,
what’s for dinner (or breakfast
or lunch!) becomes the most important
question of the day. Turns out, altitude
does affect appetite!
Fortunately, the Blue Ridge
mountains are home to
some truly inspired chefs.
Homegrown favorites
include the proverbial
meat-and-three, as well as
smoky barbecue, delectable
pasta and fresh trout. And several
cutting-edge chefs from across the
South have heeded the call of the
mountains and brought fine dining to
our area with tantalizing appetizers
and full-course meals.
And did you know? You can enjoy
beer, wine and mixed drinks at select
Fannin County restaurants (even on
Sundays in the city of Blue Ridge).

While you’ll definitely want
to visit the restaurants in Blue
Ridge, McCaysville, Morganton
and elsewhere around
the area, don’t forget that
many local stores feature specialty
meats, cheeses, wines and
other delicacies to bring back to the
cabin — or take on a picnic!
See pages 33-37 for special
dining offers.
