Where to Get Wet
on a hot summer day, there’s
nothing better than getting wet
in a creek, river, lake or even a waterfall!
If you’re looking for a place to
cool off, consider a visit to one of
these popular areas and attractions:
Toccoa River &
Aska Adventure Area
You’ll find several Toccoa River
access points along the Aska Road
area, including the Toccoa River
Rapids, Shallowford Bridge
and Sandy Bottoms.
Further down Aska
Road, you can enjoy a
refreshing trip down the
clear-flowing waters by
renting a pink tube from
the folks at Toccoa Valley
Campground (toccoavalleycamp
ground.com). Below the dam, go paddling

on the Toccoa with Blue Ridge
Moun tain Kayaking (blueridge
mountainkayaking.com), which
offers guided tours and lessons.
Morganton Point
Recreation Area
This is the perfect spot to spend a
day swimming in the lake or playing
on the beach. There are picnic tables
throughout the area and a covered
picnic pavilion. A boat ramp is located
just beyond the beach and picnic
area. Day use fee is $5 per vehicle,
and campsites are available April-

Cooper Creek
Recreation Area
Two creeks, Cooper Creek and
nearby Mulky Creek, are available
for anglers and waders, with both
creeks offering wild and stocked
trout. This area of beautiful,
old-growth forest lies on
the Fannin/Union border.

Deep Hole
Recreation Area
There’s plenty to do here, off
Hwy. 60 south of Morganton, including
fishing, camping, picnicking and
canoeing. Deep Hole is the start of the
Toccoa River Canoe Trail, and has an
excellent canoe launch area. Day use
fee is $3 per vehicle, plus camping is

Horseshoe Bend Park
This beautiful park is located in
McCaysville and runs alongside the
Toccoa River. Fly fisherman love this
spot, as well as tubers and kayakers.
