Of Florida’s 67 counties, the largest 10 counties account for 61.3% of the total population and 63.8% of
the growth since the 2010 census. Florida’s 20 largest counties (by population) comprise 80% of the
state’s population, and these counties accounted for 84.5% of the growth.
The I-4 corridor, which includes the Orlando, Lakeland and
Tampa metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs), represents
29.4% of Florida’s population and 36.2% of Florida’s
population growth.
A positive trend for Polk County is a population growth
rate which is slightly faster than Florida, and it seems
that the growth is accelerating. This is a testament to the
strong location attributes of Polk County, located at the
center of the I-4 corridor and the center (on a population
weighted basis) of Florida.
