Disney Youth Educatio Applied Sciences
The Evolution Of Technology
Grades 6th-12th
During this adventure, students will come to
understand the broader scope of technology
and how innovation is inspired. Attraction
experiences help demonstrate the factors
that drive technology development and how
mankind’s challenges are being aided by these
advancements.
Energy And Waves Physics Lab
Grades 3rd-12th
The uniquely themed lands of the Magic
Kingdom® Park form the basis of this
examination of light and sound energy and its
relationship to creating one-of-a-kind Disney
experiences. Students engage in discussion and
hands-on activities that form the foundation of
8
Experiences to Engage, their exploration of sound and light at work at
the Magic Kingdom® Park.
Sound is a familiar part of our lives and provides
information about the world around us.
Guided by a Disney Y.E.S. facilitator, students
investigate sound and how it is produced and
how it travels. A select attraction showcases how
sound can alter our sense of reality and transport
us from one world to another, Disney-style!
The students’ journey
continues into the amazing
world of light and a look
at the Electromagnetic
Spectrum. Refraction,
reflection, absorption,
and wave components are
revealed through study
and group discussion. A
trip to Liberty Square®
provides an illuminating
understanding of the
power of light in creating
some delightfully
“haunting” special effects!
We put it all together at a
select Fantasyland® attraction and discover how
Walt Disney Imagineers applied the principles
of light and sound to create an immersive story
experience.
Properties Of Motion Physics Lab
Grades 3rd-12th
The Magic Kingdom® Park comes alive in a
whole new way as students experience firsthand
scientific principles at work at select
park attractions!
The learning experience kicks off with an
experiment that establishes the utilization of a
creative problem-solving method, commonly
referred to as the scientific method, and the
introduction to Sir Isaac Newton’s Laws of
Motion.
This playground for all ages provides an
ideal environment for an exploration of
inertia and potential and kinetic energy.
An activity challenge and a select attraction
showcase how these concepts and the laws of
physics contribute to the thrill behind today’s
“scream” machines.
Students unlock the science of creating those
exhilarating storytelling moments of a Disney
“mountain” through hands-on activities, a
final attraction, and discussion where inertia,
gravity, and centripetal force take center stage
in the program experience.
Everyday Chemistry Grades 4th-9th
The learning adventure begins with an
examination of some everyday items and the
elements: carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
Hands-on activities with molecules and
sodium polyacrylate illustrate the role of
bonds between atoms and in chemical
compounds, further demonstrating that
chemistry is the science of change.
Leadership Development
Disney Leadership Strategies
Grades 9th-12th
Participants learn Disney management
skills and business strategies for becoming
an effective leader. Specially designed
activities help students explore effective
communication skills and empowerment
techniques. Students learn how to inspire
team excellence while coming to understand
the practical application of these components
in everyday life.
Managing Your Personal Brand
Grades 6th-10th
This field study aims to help students become
self-aware, self-disciplined and self-motivated
to increase their potential for becoming
future leaders. Your group will learn that their
choices tell their personal story and that they
have the power to control their image. They
will come to understand how to project a
positive image, build their skill set through
the collection of experience and apply those
skills to leading others.
Exploring Careers In The
Zoological Sciences
Grades 9th-12th
Exposure to the variety of careers in the
Zoological Sciences serves as a way to inspire
students to become actively engaged in the
protection and preservation of wildlife and
wild places. Students experience an insider’s
view of the innovative ways that Disney’s
Animal Kingdom® Theme Park is providing
excellence in animal care while addressing the
conservation challenges facing many animals
today. Students investigate the different roles
that are required to care for the animals within
the park, learn about the responsibilities of
those roles, and discover the value of those
roles as well as their individual contributions
to the overall operation of the park.
Exploring Careers In The Marine
Sciences
Grades 8th-12th
Discover how Disney scientists maintain
the environment and inhabitants of the 5.7
gallon aquarium at the center of The Seas
with Nemo & Friends. Students will learn all
about the education and training required
for professional careers in the marine sciences
while getting an up-close look into the
responsibilities of studying and caring for
aquatic animals. Students will complete their
experience by discovering the many unique
opportunities available to them, such as the
professional internship program at The Seas
with Nemo & Friends.
