Dog Parks Continue to Grow
These parks provide a wonderful opportunity for dogs to exercise and socialize with
other canines. Some dog parks are private and for members only with fees and strict
enforcement of park rules. Private parks are rare. Parks are public. They are the result of
grassroots movements and rely largely on users to adhere to rules, clean up after the dogs,
and keep the peace by removing aggressive animals. Without the screening required by
private parks, there is no way of knowing if all public park participants are properly socialized
and are current on vaccinations.
Most parks operate smoothly. Some parks provide space for dogs to run off leash while
others set the stage for positive interaction among pets and people.
Note: Some parks may not be completely fenced. Usage may be limited to residents of the particular area.
