NEW PROGRAMS DEBUT FOR HOME-SCHOOLED
CHILDREN, ACTIVE ADULTS AND CAREGIVERS.

he Florida Hospital School of the Arts
at Dr. Phillips Center is beginning the
2018-19 academic year by inviting a
new group of students to take part in
its ever-expanding arts-education program
— the growing number of kids who are
home-schooled.
Now, home-schooled students in pre-kindergarten
through eighth grade will be able
to earn academic credit for studying performing
arts in classes designed just for them.
The home-schooling curriculum is one
of two new programs being debuted this

tive adults and caregivers.
The fall semester runs September 10
through December 22, while the spring semester
runs January 14 through May 19, 2019.
Tuition ranges from $48 to $154 per month.
The deadline has passed to apply for
scholarships for the fall, or for the full school
year. However, the deadline for spring semester
scholarships is Wednesday, November 28.

classes, and early sign-up is encouraged.

School of the Arts Manager Laura Peete
says the home-schooling initiative was a
ongoing vision of “Arts for Every Life.”
Maximizing the use of studio space and
serving the greatest number of students possible
are priorities at the school, says Peete,
who prior to joining the arts center worked
with home-schooled students as education
director of CYT Chicago, a youth theater
company.

home-schooled in 2016–17, including about
5,200 in Orange County. Statewide, the number
rose 15 percent between 2012–13 and
2016–17.
