you gotta TRY!
#5 South in your Mouth
(Southern Charm, 224 W. Main St.)
— Enjoy a taste of the Deep South,
where everything is finger lickin’ good
and served with Southern hospitality!
Start off with some fried green tomatoes
or pickles, then add in a hearty Southern
entrée (such as chicken and dumplings,
fried catfish or popcorn shrimp). Then
wash it all down with some peach tea
and homemade biscuits.
#4 Authentic Mexican
(Monte Alban Restaurante Mexicano,
5004 Appalachian Hwy.) — Smart
travelers know to follow the locals when
looking for good food at family-friendly
prices. In Blue Ridge, that will lead you
straight to Monte Alban, where both the
food and the service is authentically
Mexican. The menu offers a wide selection,
and the portions are generous.
#3 Loaded for Lunch
(Angelina’s Deli & Gourmet Market,
3640 E. First St.) — It ain’t bragging if
it’s true, and Angelina’s truly has some of
the best sandwiches in town (made with
Boar’s Head meats and cheeses). While
you wait, they make paninis and specialty
sandwiches, as well as wraps (try the
chipotle chicken caesar wrap). Order at
the deli counter then grab a seat (or check
out the imported goods).
#2 Riverside Dining
(Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, 8055
Aska Rd.) — The views are as wonderful
as the food at this perennial favorite
located 8 miles down Aska Road. The
vibe is upscale rustic, with dining available
inside or on the deck overlooking the scenic
Toccoa River. Trout is the specialty:
fried, blackened, crab-stuffed and pecan-
encrusted. Did we mention the view?
