Local entrepreneur Kelli Parker Becton started using essential oils after years of battling chronic pain
from rheumatoid arthritis. After a dangerous reaction to some of her medication, she searched for more
natural solutions for pain and fatigue. The essential oils were a godsend.
“I’ve always loved the scent of citrus, but didn’t realize it could be invigorating and fight fatigue!” she
said. “The science behind it is fascinating. Our olfactory system links directly to various areas in the brain,
which can trigger physiological responses.”
Popular oils
of choice:
Some of the most popular medicinal oils
include: Aloe vera, basil, black cohosh,
cinnamon, clove, Echinacea, eucalyptus, ginger,
lavender, lemon, lemongrass, peppermint, pine,
sage, tea tree, rosemary and thyme.
Some of the most popular aromatherapy oils
(mood altering and enhancing oils also make
your house smell amazing!) include:
Lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus,
lemon, tea tree.
Kelli said whether it’s scientific truth or
a placebo effect, all she knows for sure is
that it works for her, and that the oils from
an abundance of plants have healing
qualities that have changed her life. She
has found oils that help with pain, to gain
more energy, blood pressure, to help
with depression, ADD and ADHD, as
well as with concentration and focus.
There are oils for most any ailment.
“I spent years in the bed with pain and
now I walk two to five miles a day, that’s
exciting,” she said. “I feel like I’m taking
my life back and I love sharing oils with
people. But it’s important to do your
homework and use any supplement
responsibly. My doctor is on board with
my usage, and I’ve taken courses to learn
more. Essential oils can be used to fight
infection, household cleaning, aromatherapy
and to overcome chronic
problems. Why wouldn’t we put them to
good use?”
Kelli continues to take classes in aromatherapy
while finishing up her degree
in Nutrition and Wellness. She makes
essential oil jewelry and has written a
book entitled “Natural Family Essential
Oils” With easy recipes to get you
started. http://bit.ly/NATFAMEO She is
