Dr. Frances K. Flagg was the
quintessential modern-day woman of
faith. Raised in an era when both people
of color and women faced extraordinary
odds and obstacles, Dr. Frances Flagg
was from the youngest age propelled
by a faith that allowed her to grow,
inspire and achieve throughout her life.
She lived a life of balance - a motivating
leader, but a faithful servant;
well-educated, but led by the Spirit;
accomplished in church and
distinguished in the larger community.
Blessed with long life, Dr. Frances
Flagg helped to nurture a generation
of servants confident in the reaches of
their minds and imaginations and ever
dependent on the depth of their
28
commitments to the things of God. We honor
this legacy and applaud her life.
Frances K. Flagg was born in Memphis,
Tennessee to the loving embrace of her mother,
the late Mrs. Lillian Nance Knight and a proud
father, the late Mr. Habakkuk Knight.
During her formative years, Frances was
nurtured under the leadership and spiritual
guidance of the Founder Of The Church Of
God In Christ, Bishop Charles Harrison Mason.
These and other early introductions to holiness
and sanctification led her to confess Jesus as
her Lord and personal Savior.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Samuel
H. Flagg, Jr. and to this union two beautiful
children were born, Samuel H. Flagg, III and
Deborah D. Flagg. A lifelong love of learning
for Frances Flagg began with Memphis City
Schools and her graduation from Booker T.
Washington High School. She received her
Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from
LeMoyne College and a Master's Degree in
Administration and Supervision at Arkansas
State University. She received certification in
Early Childhood Education after post-graduate
studies at Memphis State University. She earned
a Doctor of Ministry in Christian Education at
Jacksonville Theological Seminary.
