Her personal devotion to educational growth and
improvement permeated her career as an educator.
Dr. Flagg did not just teach during her 23 years
with Memphis City Schools - she touched and
influenced lives. It was this work to reach and
inspire young people at school which also shaped
her particular commitment to and love for your
people whom she shaped toward ministry.
As a lifetime member of the historical Temple
Church Of God In Christ, Missionary Frances K.
Flagg had the wonderful opportunity to sit at the
feet of the denomination's founding father, Bishop
Charles Harrison Mason. It is no wonder that she
became one of the pillars of the Temple Church,
laboring untiringly in many ministries. She utilized
her administrative skills to spearhead numerous
successful programs. For over a quarter of a
century, she served as Choir President, Young
People Willing Workers (YPWW) Secretary, and
worked in the Sunday School Department. She
was a prayer warrior, church clerk, Trustee Board
member, Missionary Board, Visiting Outreach
Team, and Director of the Youth Department.
She was instrumental in organizing Annual
Youth Day, Youth Outreach Ministry,
-
Black History Observance, Honor Service
for Graduates, and travel experience for
many young people.
For those beyond the walls of the church,
thousands of local citizens came to know
Missionary Flagg without really knowing her
name. This was because she was the owner
of the vibrant, articulate, and engaging
voice that introduced the well-known
Temple Church Radio broadcast on the
nation's first black radio station, WDIA
- 1070 on the AM dial.
Missionary Flagg was a faithful and loyal
servant and gave dedicated service to the
Church Of God In Christ, Inc. on all levels
and in various capacities. Her many
outstanding contributions include District
Secretary during the administration of three
Superintendents, Executive Secretary of the
Greater Faith District, and Chairperson of the
District Department of Women. She was also
president of the Adjutant Sisters of
Headquarters Jurisdiction, Coordinator of the
Missionary and Auxiliary Awareness Institute
(MAAI), Chief Justice of the State Sunday
School Essay Competition, Bishop J. O. Patterson,
Jr. Scholarship Fund Committee, Chairman of the
United Jurisdictional
Auxiliaries Convention (UJAC) Souvenir
Book Committee, Director of the Sunday
School Department Oratorical Competition,
and served in public relations for the Department
of Women and UJAC, National Adjutant Sister,
Reservation Committee member for the Charles
Harrison Mason Scholarship Dinner, narrator
for the highly acclaimed video, "The Charles
Harrison Mason Story", and the co-author of
the Department of Women's Missionary and
Auxiliary Awareness Institute Manual.
Dr. Flagg was also the recipient of many
awards and honors too numerous to enumerate.
Undisputedly, Dr. Frances K. Flagg was a
churchwoman, competent leader, distinguished
educator, wife, mother, and an anointed
servant of the most-High God.
