Real Hero Report |
Operation Appreciation (OpA) provides support for
military service members in the Georgia Guard and
Reserves, veterans, and their family members, including
our littlest heroes, the children.
These service members are unique in that they are employed in
the civilian world, with civilian benets and civilian lives. Upon
activation they are called into the world of the “big military” and
once deployed their family members often are left with questions
regarding pay, benets, resources, and more. OpA’s mission is
to be their resource in time of need. We proudly offer support
ranging from resource identication through other organizations,
unit support via care packages, family readiness group support,
rear detachment support, emergency support, and a strong focus
on military children through activities and mentorship. Our goal
is to provide assistance, no matter the need. We nd a way to
pull the community together to rally the needed resource for each
assistance request we receive. Our history, our mission and our
goal is to nd a way to cover a need when OpA receives a request.
Our assistance is not based on rank or qualifying applications.
Our assistance is based on need only. Each and every assist is
unique, unplanned, and centered around the specic request
received.
OpA recognizes that when a military member serves, the whole
family serves. Our support goes beyond the unit, beyond the
military member; we reach into the families to keep them strong
during and after military service to our great nation. We believe
that a healthy family offers a healthy service member. When the
service member knows that their family is taken care of, they are
able to stay in the mission, forward thinking, and return home
safely to their loved ones.
OpA has a cabin retreat in the North Georgia Mountains–
Red, White & Bear (RWB)–where we host disabled veterans.
A disability may present itself in many different forms and can
range from mental to physical to emotional. The greatest problem
RWB is able to address is time: time to reintegrate, time to be
still, time to lay down the burdens of military demands. Each
retreat will offer time to sit and listen to the wind in the trees,
read a book, go for a walk, be still; time to communicate with
family members about what they missed while they were away;
and what to expect going forward and formulate an action plan.
By being aware of transition stresses and reintegration shortfalls,
RWB will offer a sanctuary where issues can slowly be addressed.
By offering a place to lay down the burdens of deployment
and family separation, our ultimate goal is to thank our service
members for everything they have sacriced and give them a little
“something” in return.
As we wrap us 2018 and look toward all of the deployment
activity and support requirements, OpA needs your help and
support for our troops by making a tax deductible donation today.
