I told her how I wanted something more and I couldn’t keep going through life broken and stuck
in sin. My life felt worthless. I partied and got drunk obsessively trying to impress guys and allowing
myself to be mistreated. Depression and anxiety were my normal. My roommate lovingly
listened as I told her I was hesitant to give myself to Jesus. Ultimately, I didn’t want to give up fun
things, I didn’t want to be judged by others, and I didn’t want to lose friends. I was scared of the
cost.
After my roommate prayed over me and the event continued, I tuned in to what Michael Pierce was
speaking to the room. “Jesus breaks chains”, he said, “you can only experience true freedom in
Jesus Christ.” The truth of the words hit me. He continued, “On the count of three, I’m going to ask
anyone who wants to give their life to Jesus to raise their hand and instantly you will feel chains
break. One… two… three!” My arm shot up. In that moment, it felt as if God overtook my body
calling me home to where I had always belonged.
Sitting a few rows behind me a friend from the basketball team saw me standing in all my brokenness
weeping with my hand in the air. She ran over hugging me repeating “thank you Jesus” over
peace, and freedom. In an instant my personality changed. I was a new person, born again, just as
Jesus said.
The days following the event I told everyone about Jesus. Though I didn’t know the Bible well I
couldn’t stop talking about what Jesus did in my own life. One night, sitting with friends by the
check-in desk at my dorm, I overheard a girl talking with a few others. Seeing an opportunity we
walked over and introduced ourselves. We prayed this girl would experience the goodness and
her life to Jesus at church the next time she goes. I responded excitedly that she didn’t need to be
at a church building to give her life to Jesus, she could do it right now! Right there in my dorm she
gave her life to Jesus. I led her with prayer three days after I decided to give my life to Jesus.
Jesus saves. Jesus heals. He mends broken hearts, brings people
together, and he loves unconditionally. I lost most of the friends I
was worried about losing. It was then the most life-giving friendships
started. The things I didn’t want to give up I now don’t even
want. Jesus’s fullness in my life is too great to miss the old things.
The Lord used CarryTheLove to show me that no one is too broken
for Jesus, no could ever sin too much for Jesus. This is a testimony
to how Jesus changed my life.
