The Town of Ocean City Beautication
Committee works in partnership with the
Department of Recreation and Parks to
bring the beauty of trees and color to our
barrier island town. The volunteer members
are appointed and commissioned
by the Mayor and City Council to help
determine the needs of the town for the
planting, maintenance, and protection of
all trees on the streets and in the parks
of Ocean City. The members provide
assistance by making referrals for the
enforcement of the landscape code.
Each spring, the Ocean City Beauti
cation Committee, along with the
second grade students from Ocean City
Elementary School, join to produce an
Arbor Day celebration for the town at the
school. During the festivities, the Mayor
is presented with the National Arbor Day
Foundation’s Tree City USA Award and
the MD P.L.A.N.T Award, which is administered
by the Maryland Community
Forest Committee. During the summer,
the committee tours the town to review
nominated properties for Beauty Spots
Awards, which the Mayor and City
Council present in September at a City
Council meeting. Nominations can be
made by July 4. Email nominations to
ocbeautication@hotmail.com. Each
December, the committee beautifully
decorates City Hall for the holidays.
