Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924)
(Composer)
Born in Lucca, Italy, Puccini was one of nine
children of a musical family. Initially his operas
reflected traditional Italian opera form, but later, he
developed a verismo style and became its champion.
When the news of his death reached Rome, it was
during a performance of La Bohème. The conductor
stopped the performance and played Chopin’s
“Funeral March.”
