The farm is located at 19420 US Highway 41 in Lutz, and
for over 70 years, the farmhouse and property belonged to the
well-known Gaither Family. Mrs. Gaither was a master gardener
and successfully cultivated her gardens for many years. The farm
house interior has been renovated, a greenhouse was constructed,
and many raised bed gardens were built.
a handful of volunteers and we’ve grown to over 50 people
who come and go all day long as it suits their work and family
schedule. Each volunteer has a raised bed garden where they can
grow their own organic produce of their choosing. Additionally,
they also tend to assigned farm chores and community garden
beds, the fruits of which are shared among the volunteers who
care for them. Many participants make this a family affair
bringing their children, who work on the gardens as well.
“It’s so interesting to see all the different types of people
who enjoy working here on the farm. For example, we have a
professional woman, a real Captain of Industry who - no joke -
occasionally tends the chickens in a power suit on her way to a
board meeting. Working at the farm speaks to many people on
many different levels,” David said.
The farm is very appreciative of their local partners and
donors who are willing to contribute services or funding for
projects to facilitate the growth of this very special place. David
mentioned that they could use some professional help from
a grant application writer so that they can secure funding to
develop additional programs at the farm. Upcoming projects
include a goat farm and an organic blueberry farm, both of
which are very labor intensive ventures. Eventually they plan to
renovate the garage and 2nd story of the farmhouse into living
quarters for a college intern to live on site.

In August of 2018, our community lost an incredible pioneer,
however Abby Sayler has left us with her indelible legacy that
will continue to educate and support her beloved community
for generations to come. Abby deeply believed in ‘Better Health
Through Education’, and through her generous donation and
development of this beautiful property, her vision will live on in
perpetuity through Abby’s Organic Community Farm.
