North Little Rock, Arkansas (July 2019)
The Natural State is home to an incredible
array of people. All different backgrounds,
political ideologies and beliefs, yet when
people go out to little markets, all of these
differences fade away. What matters are the
smiles and enjoyment together,
in an environment prompting
memories of days gone by.
The local market community
in central Arkansas is rich and
supported by patrons and
other businesses both large
and small. Larry and Debbie
McGee’s unintended start of
Me & McGee Market brought
me into the “Farmers Market”
life and it has been one of the
greatest blessings.
We lost Larry McGee in
September of 2016 to a long
taken on the family was, as ironically as it
sounds, the motivation for starting the Larry
McGee Foundation. Terminal illness is cruel
and devastating to all involved. Our evolution in
to dig into how we can best assist and focusing
on the caregiver stood out. It's our story… If
we can relieve a little stress, the quality of life
will improve for the caregiver and subsequently,
the loved one.
The Larry McGee Foundation will start by
working with Hospice for “Acts of Kindness”
donations and sponsoring prepared meals. A
times can have a great impact.
Local Magazine and the Larry McGee
Foundation have come together to promote
experiencing local farmers markets. For the
purpose of the Local Farmers Market Challenge
2019, a Local Farmers Market is any locallyowned
venue in the state of Arkansas that
sells products supporting local farmers and/
or artisan food items. This can be a farm stand,
specialty grocery,
booth space market,
etc.
The Curve Market
in Scott, The Bramble
Market in Ferndale
and Me and McGee
Market in North
Little Rock are only
a few examples of
the many locally run
outlets. In doing this
challenge, it's our goal
to bring awareness
and exposure to the
Larry McGee Foundation and all “Markets”
supporting the community.
The time frame for the
challenge will be July 1, 2019,
through Oct 31, 2019. A drawing
for prizes will take place at Me
and McGee Market on Saturday,
November 2, 2019.
How does it work?
Challenge cards will be issued
To be eligible for the drawing:
1. Visit Me and McGee to pick
card.
2. Visit 7 “Markets” before Oct.
Card at each location.
3. Turn in completed Card to Me and McGee
Market.
Updates and information will be included on
the Facebook page and event. Use and follow
the hashtag #localfarmersmarketchallenge2019
to follow along as we support the community
together. You can also check in on Facebook at
different locations for a chance to win random
prizes!
Sponsors will be added to a special page on
the Me & McGee Market website and be given
shoutouts through social media.
I’d like to commend the founders of Local
Magazine, Rich Niemeyer and Kaitlin Schmidt,
for their genuine desire to serve the community
and support all of the small businesses in
central Arkansas. We are truly blessed to call
them friends.
