I elated to be a of My desire is we encourage inspire more young African-American men
and women to embrace the variety of areas
within this industry. Due to the nature of this
profession, it has been particularly dominated
by our male counterparts. Thankfully, we have
shown with style, grace, intelligence, and the
intrepid will to overcome negative stigmas, that
women have a voice and the potential to excel
in mortuary services”, stated Lyles. The road has
not been easy. From the acquisition of many
certifications and licensures, to traveling out
of state for continuing education courses, both
Lyles and Taylor have made tremendous
sacrifices to get where they are today.
Taylor expressed, “Most people look at us
and think that it has been ‘easy’ to get where
we are. I can truly say that it has not been
a bed of roses. Both of us have put in over
11 years individually of late night hospital
calls and working in various facets of this
occupation to get where we are today.
Many days, we did what we loved to do
not knowing if we would be compensated
or not.We had the drive, the passion and
we wanted to make sure families were
taken care of in the best way possible.
Right now, we are enjoying the fruits of
our labor – and we still have a long way
to go to reach our ultimate business goals
collaboratively.”
