For context, the journey for guide dogs in training at Guide Dogs for the Blind
begins with socialization when the puppies are just three days old. A guide

fore they are matched with a blind or visually impaired person, or handler, free
of charge. These amazing guides are equipped to handle and navigate the
noise, crowds and tight spaces that come with our busy world - including the
unique challenges associated with air travel or public transportation.
Many of our clients have active lifestyles, busy careers and travel often, and
their guides are necessary for their mobility. Years of training, care and nurturing
goes into each one of our guide dogs. And of course, the bond between
how one unfortunate encounter between an untrained pet and a service animal
could mean the end of the service animal’s career. The emotional loss is
enormous.
In recent years, confusion between legitimate service dogs and pets have

clients stopped in stores, restaurants and airports in order to prove they are
blind or visually impaired, which is not only unacceptable but illegal.
