ANIMAL RESCUE
Einstein’s Story
Imagine what it would feel like being eaten alive both inside and outside?
Well, that’s exactly how Einstein must have felt.
This poor Schnauzer mix not only had a heavy load of heartworms, but he
was also covered with thousands of chewing lice when he arrived at the Animal
Care Society. There wasn’t a square inch of Einstein’s emaciated body
that wasn’t covered with scabs. We quickly set to work bathing Einstein and
toll on his body was even more evident once he was groomed. But, it wasn’t
just Einstein’s body that was in bad shape… it was
also his soul.
days at our shelter. He would just stand in the
same place with his back arched, his head down
and his tail tucked tightly between his legs. We
had to lift his head up to make eye contact with
him and the look of hopelessness we saw there
was enough to break our hearts. Einstein wasn’t
terrible condition and we knew we could help him.
Einstein on intake day
we spent a lot of time just sitting with Einstein,
talking to him and brushing his coat. He started
making eye contact and, after a couple of days,
his tail – although still tucked between his legs –
would wag just a little.
Einstein was slowly realizing that he was in good
hands with people who loved him. By the end
dog. He met us at his kennel door with his head
up and his tail wagging. Gone was the hunched
over posture of a dog that had given up, and in
its place was a happy dog that knew life was good and was only going to get
better.
Einstein still has a way to go before he can
treatment in October followed by another
treatment in November. Then we’ll have to
wait another six months before he can be
tested to make sure the treatment worked.
Once we get the ‘all clear,’ we’ll have Einstein
neutered and he’ll be ready to start the next
chapter of his life – being someone’s coddled
canine companion!
The Animal Care Society is able to help dogs
like Einstein because of the generosity of
people who donate to our shelter and we are
so appreciative of their kindness.
