Sarasota’s support for the
LGBTQ community shines
LRYAN WILLIAMS-JENT GBTQ individuals and our allies have
long understood the importance of
community. In times of need and in
times of celebration, we have always leaned
on one another to cultivate connection and
rally our resources.
It’s certainly been true in Sarasota for years, where members
of the LGBTQ frequently arrive and thrive. Sarasota is home to
a diverse array of organizations small and large that focus on
personal and community growth for all citizens and visitors.
Advocates and allies have formed them to promote health,
wellness and support of all types—learn more about some of the
most inclusive organizations here.

Local leaders and advocates formed ALSO Youth in 1992 with
organizations like PFLAG, Planned Parenthood and YMCA Youth
and Family Services. Its founders were alarmed at statistics
which documented high rates of suicide among gay and lesbian
teens. It exists today to provide Advocacy, Leadership, Support
and Outreach to LGBTQ+ youth and their allies.
The nonprofit provides peer support services, educational
programs, advocacy and referrals for gay, lesbian, bisexual,
