When you’re driving onto Gasparilla
Island and you cross the second
bridge of the Boca Grande Causeway
you look out to your right and see one of the
most iconic tableaus known to every soul who
has visited here. You see bright blue water that
fades into an aqua-green, brilliant sand and a Pass
that has a clear view into the Gulf of Mexico. The
island you are looking at is Little Gasparilla Island
… and while she might be our sister spit of land
she is truly nothing like us.
Little Gasparilla is one of the most primitive,
yet inhabited, barrier islands on this coast. The
re are no proper roads, there are no stores.
When you live or rent there you need to be
committed to the mindset that supplies are
purchased infrequently and in bulk, and internet
connection is sometimes sporadic. While some
might think it sounds like a nightmare, there are
considerably more people who think it sounds
like a perfect vacation.
Little Gasparilla Island is truly one of the last
barrier islands in the United States where you can
get a lot for under $100,000.
The Gone
Fish Inn
Gallery is a
perfect place
to pick up a
souvenir of
your visit to
the island.
