A Book Review
By Jonathan Herbert
Breakwater is an adrenaline laced
novel featuring Ellie O’Conner and
a cast of memorable characters
played out on the edge of Southwest
Florida. Pine Island and the surrounding
areas are at the heart of this surreal
story about human traffi cking and
the potential dangers we face in our
everyday lives. Author Jack Hardin
writes masterful prose with a purpose,
especially in Book 5 of his Pine Island
Coast Florida Suspense Series. This
standalone addition to an exemplary
series is not only entertaining, it also
shines a spotlight on the dark side of
paradise.
A KIDNAPPED GIRL.
A MURDERED FRIEND.
AND MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS.
No longer with a government agency, Ellie O'Conner is fi nally enjoying the peaceful life she's been
hoping for. But when tragedy hits close to home, Ellie and her friends are sent reeling, trying to catch their
breath.
After three decades with the DEA, Jet Jahner has gone into private investigation. When someone brings
him a case about a missing girl, he struggles to fi nd a worthy lead.
A cryptic email asking for help ends up leading Ellie down a path that yields more questions than
answers.
And what they fi nd just may send them both to the bottom.
Author Jack Hardin believes, “as an author of fi ction my fi rst duty is to take the reader out of their own
world and into the one I’ve created. At the same time, I saw the Breakwater plot as an opportunity to
highlight a growing problem in our country, namely sex traffi cking. It had to be done in a way that was both
tactful and subtle and did not sacrifi ce the story or diminish the characters. The book has been very well
received.”
Ellie O’Conner is submerged in the central plot and delivers time and time again for those complex
characters that depend on her. She is both unforgettable and deliberate in her actions against powerful
men doing deplorable things to innocent women.
