President’s Message
Sometimes you can say that you’ve had enough of what isn’t
really enough. This couldn’t be truer of the 2019 Biennium Legislative
Session that’s continued for nearly ten months. There has
been ample time to accomplish important things, but it has been
a very tempestuous ride in the legislature this year. Our public
what were remarkedly unchartered seas: a line in the sand veto
later, a series of mini budget bills, and speculation on both sides
as to what comes next and how all will be resolved.
And sadly, once again our quality of life was taken for granted
by lawmakers, with our future cost of living bonuses tied to political
battles, mini budget bills, and inconsistent support between
both parties.
Despite this, we are not done, and we must do more. If lawmakers
don’t want to help us, we’re going to have to let them
when it comes to election day.
In September, NCRGEA launched two online petitions, one for
retired teachers and state government employees and another
for local government retirees. There has never been a more important
time than now for you to sign these petitions. The more
who sign the petition, the louder NCRGEA’s voice will be and the
harder for you to be ignored.
NCRGEA needs you to sign this petition, and for you to share
with friends, family, and neighbors who retired from public service.
