THANKSGIVING
Zoe is a sweet spirited, elevenyearold
girl who loves school. She’s excited about starting art classes on our campus. And she really enjoys going to her church (she actually
takes notes on her pastor’s sermons!).
I cannot thank you enough for providing a place for Zoe to take a breath, to heal, to learn to trust people, and to feel safe, because most of her life, she hasn’t felt safe.
Please know that your Thanksgiving gift will make immediate and eternal differences for so many children like Zoe who come into our care. You are helping them experience
the healing, hope, and unconditional love of Jesus they so desperately need.
Thank you for your concern and compassion for our children! May our Lord bless you and your family with a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

Dear Friend of Children,
Zoe* is very thankful to be living at the Children’s Home. We are her third foster care placement. Her
younger siblings are in foster care in another city. Their biological parents were unable to properly care for
them neglect and abuse.
Zoe is incredibly grateful to be in a safe, caring home where her medical needs are being addressed and
she is loved unconditionally by her cottage parents.
Here is my Thanksgivingl gift for the children.

Right Thinking Essential to Relieve
Holiday Stress...
The approaching holidays can bring up painful memories and feelings of anxiety, sadness
and loss for many. God created each of us with a vast array of emotions—both positive
and negative. He also gives us wise counsel on how to handle our negative emotions. God
loves us and wants us to know what to do when we struggle with uncomfortable feelings.
Philippians 4:6 says, “Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer
and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” We can apply
this truth in our lives and relieve the feelings of anxiety and sadness.
We know that our thoughts influence our behavior and emotions (feelings). Many
times, we let our emotions impact our thinking, which in turn impacts our behavior. When
we are anxious, God tells us to talk to Him and tell Him everything we are feeling and thinking.
Then we are to focus on the things for which we are thankful. As we “give thanks in
everything,” our anxiety begins to diminish. A heart filled with thanksgiving cannot coexist
with anxiety. We will either be thankful or anxious. God wants us to choose to have a heart
of gratitude.
Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” God’s promises support the wisdom of gratitude.
Inner calm or tranquility is promised to the believer who has a thankful attitude
based on unwavering confidence that God is able and willing to do what is best for His children.
We become worried, anxious, and fearful when we do not trust in God’s wisdom,
power, or goodness. Thankful prayer brings release from fear and anxiety, because it affirms
God’s sovereign control over every life circumstance, and that His purpose is for our good
(Romans 8:2829).
When we know that we have made “peace with God” through trusting Christ as our
Savior and Lord (Romans 5:1), we can enjoy the “peace of God” through confident trust in
His wisdom, power, and goodness. As a Christian counselor, I believe the peace of God is
what brings real comfort to the human heart.
Thanksgiving and Christmas are times to be thankful for everything God has provided
us. A good place to begin is thanking Him for the gift of salvation He has graciously provided
us in Christ. When I think of where I could be today, if it were not for God’s saving grace in
my life, my heart overflows with thanksgiving!
