Greater Fort Lauderdale is
where the senior
athletes are
…for the next three years
Welcome to the Greater Fort Lauderdale Area, Florida
Senior Games athletes.
This South Florida destination is the eighth Florida
community to host the state’s only Olympic-style Sports
Festival for athletes age 50 and over.
The 2019 Florida Senior Games presented by Humana is the
first year of a three-year run of Senior Games competitions in
the Greater Fort Lauderdale area. The Florida Senior Games
returns in 2020 and the 2021 National Senior Games will be held,
November 5-18, 2021 in South Florida.
Florida athletes have the opportunity to serve as gracious hosts
with a two-year jump start on adapting to the surroundings and
adjusting to the home venue advantages.
“This is going to be one of the most exciting three-year periods
in the 28-year history of the Florida Senior Games,” said Marvin
E. Green, Jr., Vice President of Amateur Sports for the Florida
Sports Foundation. “Florida Senior Games athletes will be
paving the way for what we hope is a record-setting National
Senior Games in the Sunshine State.”
The previous seven host communities have all presented the
athletes in competition a variety of opportunities. The Greater
Fort Lauderdale area will not only offer memories of the Games,
but a look back at memories of days gone by.
In 1960, Where the Boys Are, a movie set on Fort Lauderdale
Beach during spring break, set the stage for years to come. It
cast a national spotlight on Fort Lauderdale.
Athletes at the 2019 Florida Senior Games who may have
experienced the beaches of Fort Lauderdale at the classic movie
would now be in the 75-79 age group. Anyone care to share a
memory?
