CCWCF recently had an opportunity to talk with
Sean Kiernan at one of his stops around the county
displaying his ‘68 Mustang, the car driven by Steve
McQueen in the 1968 movie “Bullitt.” It all culminates
in Kissimmee, January 2-12 at the Mecum Auction.
We noticed right away that we weren’t talking to a
“collector” but someone who was simply a guy who
loved Mustangs.
CCWCF: How did you come to acquire the Bullitt
Mustang?
Kiernan: In 1974 my father, who had always wanted
a Mustang, responded to an ad in Road &
Track magazine that simply said “1968
Bullitt Mustang driven by McQueen in
the movie...can be documented. Best
offer.” He bought it for $6,000.00.
It wasn’t a show car for us at that point.
We used it daily to and from school and
for family errands. It was not just a family
daily driver, it became part of our family.
We always thought about showing it but
the timing was never right.
CCWCF: So you never thought about selling the car?
Kiernan: My father had offers, even a couple
from Steve McQueen himself. Dad
