the former mill that once stood near the Patoka River.

This beautiful area of Jasper is filled with vitality,
history, and a variety of shops. Main Street and the
area around the square provide an ideal background
for great shopping and special festivities throughout
the year. More than 20 of Jasper’s oldest sites are in
the downtown area.
L.H. Sturm Hardware Co.

Constructed in 1886, this building was purchased by
the Sturm family in 1895 for operation as a hardware
store. It stands today as one of the oldest hardware
stores in Indiana that has continually been operated
as a hardware store by the same family. It is on the
National Register of Historic Places.
Schaeffer Barn

This historic, hand-hewn log barn located near the
Jasper Riverwalk serves as a picturesque backdrop for
many events. Originally built in the 1800s, it features
a Cantilever Overhang typical of many German
buildings during the time with unique construction
of half-dovetail notches, log cribs with 26-foot
feeding troughs, and a stone foundation.
Schnitzelbank Restaurant

Opened in 1961, this restaurant is widely known for
its authentic German cuisine and ranks as one of the
top ten independent restaurants in Indiana. Enjoy
dishes commonly found in southern Germany or for
the not-so-German, check out the salad, soup and
bread bar or one of the many American favorites.
Spirit of Jasper Train & Depot

All aboard the Spirit of Jasper for a scenic excursion
from the Jasper Train Depot. Three renovated, climatecontrolled
lounge cars have restrooms, comfortable
seating, and a cash bar. Enjoy the “Jasper to French
Lick Express,” featuring a ride to the French Lick Casino
and historic West Baden, or relax aboard the “Ride &
Dine” dinner train. The Jasper Train Depot is located in
the heart of the “Old Jasper” area near the Patoka River.
The depot is a replica of the former structure built in
1906 featuring an old-fashioned ticket window, rolltop
desks, pot belly stove, and authentic memorabilia.
