2020 Community Guide 25
Demographically, North Port is different from
most of our neighboring communities in that of
our 73,000 residents, nearly 10,000 are school-aged
children. This helps our median age hover around
46 years. This adds a vibrancy and vitality to our
community. We have approximately two dozen
places of worship in North Port, many of which are
listed in this guide. The North Port Library and
Shannon Staub Library are full-service facilities.
The arts flourish in North Port, anchored by our
state-of-the-art North Port Performing Arts
Center, located at North Port High School. In
2007, in a partnership with the City, the North Port
Art Center opened the doors to its facility located
at the corner of North Port Boulevard and Sam
Shapos Way. Some of the annual events that are
held throughout the city include various Chamber
events, Fourth of July Freedom Festival, Trick-or-
Treat at City Hall, the Poinsettia Parade and the
Tree Lighting & Poinsettia Festival. Golf is enjoyed
all year long at any one of our great golf courses.
North Port is located in Southwest Florida, just
miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. The annual
average temperature is 76 degrees, with winter
temperatures averaging 63 degrees and summer
temperatures averaging 82 degrees. Annual
precipitation averages are at 49 inches, with most
of the rain falling during the months of June, July,
August, and September. Hurricane season lasts
from June 1st until November 30th. Most storms
form during the months of August and September.
We have enjoyed relatively quiet hurricane seasons
for the last few years.
