Conyers Funded

Conyers Police ��epartment ��CP���� and Rockdale County
Fire Rescue ��RCFR�� personnel had the opportunity to
a��end the Advanced ��a�� Enforcement Rapid Response
��raining ��A��ERR���� ��train the trainer�� instruc��onal course over
the summer of 201��. ��hese personnel, Conyers Police Sergeant
��ravis Smith and Sergeant Bill Connell, as ��ell as Erin Connell,
Relief ��river for Rockdale County Rescue, ��ill be instruc��ng
appro��imately ��60 ��rst responder students in the coming months
in a massive joint training e��ort.
Conyers Police o��cers and ��11 personnel, Rockdale
County depu��es, Rockdale Fire Rescue, Na��onal E��S, and
communica��ons operators from Rockdale��s Emergency
��pera��ons Center ��E��C�� all ��ill a��end one of several upcoming
t��elve��hour training sessions. ��he ��epartment of Jus��ce ������J��
and the Federal Bureau of ��nves��ga��on ��FB���� have deemed
A��ERR�� to be the na��onal standard in Ac��ve Shooter Response
training. Subse��uently, A��ERR�� also has been adopted as the
standard for the State of ��eorgia.
A��ERR�� training ��ill consist of four hours of classroom
instruc��on, follo��ed by eight full hours of prac��cal e��ercises,
��here ��rst responders are faced ��ith real��life scenarios. ��rant
funds by ����J ��ill supply simula��on ��rearms, ammuni��on, radios,
protec��ve vests, and other e��uipment to provide the most
realis��c e��perience possible in a dynamic learning environment.
��his training ��ill take place at Rockdale Career Academy ��hile
students and faculty are on various breaks in the coming months.
A��ERR�� instruc��on has taken place throughout the United States
but doub��ully ��ith the e��cep��onal instructors the Conyers��
Rockdale team are about to provide. As men��oned above, CP��
Sgt. Connell and Rockdale Fire Relief ��river Erin Connell are in
fact a father��daughter duo ��ho ��ere able to a��end the ��train��
the��trainer�� instruc��on in 201�� and no�� have the opportunity to
share their kno��ledge ��ith their peers in Conyers and Rockdale
County.
����his type of training ��ill serve us ��ell should ��e have an
unfortunate incident in our community,�� Conyers Police Chief
��ene ��ilson stated. ����e look for��ard to all of Conyers and
Rockdale��s ��rst responder agencies to come together for this
cri��cal training opportunity.��
