Editorial
This issue is dedicated to the Ramadan of 1441. Much can be said about
the blessings and virtues of this multifaceted month, but no matter how
much is written or said, one is still left with a draining feeling that justice
can never be served. Indeed, one can observe the beauty of Ramadan from many
angles: the fasting, iftar, suhur, tarawih, the familial and communal camaraderie
that is established in iftar, suhur, and tarawih time. Additionally, the sighting of the
moon, i‘tikaf, populated masjids, recitation of the Qur’an and other devotions, and
of course, the alertness in our day to day life that is born out of the abstinence of
fasting, all allowing one to observe the beauty of Ramadan even more so.
Ramadan is a way to recharge our batteries and keep us steadfast on Sirat-al-
Mustaqeem; or we can look at it as a refueling before setting back on the road to a
future that has been increasingly beset by prophesied fitan, each more dangerous
and nuanced than the previous one. If a believer doesn’t refuel in Ramadan, it is
hard to say how his/her iman is going to survive the ambush of these fitan that line
the road of Sirat-al- Mustaqeem. Ramadan, we need to realize, is an essential antidote
against the effects of the fitan that have already descended and pervaded every aspect
of our lives. We ask Allah to grant all of us the taufiq to derive maximum benefit and
to gain maghfira in Ramadan of 1441 and all future Ramadan.
