Annual Plant Sale
Blooms in Time for
Mother’s Day
The Garden Club R.F.D.
will present its annual
plant sale on Friday,
May 8, from noon to 6 pm
and on Saturday, May 9
from 9 am to 3 pm. Members
with blue aprons will
welcome attendees and
help them nd the right
plant for thier home or as a gift. Master Gardeners will also be on hand
to answer questions, and informational yers will be available. The sale
is held rain or shine. Payment can be made by check or cash. Prots
from the sales help the Garden Club R.F.D. maintain the historic schoolhouse
and the surrounding grounds as well as the club’s work in the
community, such as maintaining the herb garden at historic Marlpit
Hall (next to the Village School) and the large planters at the Middletown
train station.
The featured plants for 2020 are Bleeding Hearts and the Astilbe.
Perennial Bleeding Hearts are popular with people but not deer. With delicate,
ferny foliage and appealing heart-shaped owers that hang from
arching stems, this plant looks like a deer menu item but neither deer nor
rabbits deter its spring blossoms. Astilbe, also known as False Spirea, is
happy in a moist, shady area forming mounds of fern-like, medium green
foliage and delicate, feathery plumes of tiny blooms in many shades. It
blooms from late spring to late summer and is also happy in the sun if
you don’t mind giving these plants a little extra water.
As the time grows closer, a quick email to Ruth Korn at ruthkorn77@
gmail.ocom will hopefully provide an answer for your questions.
The club is open to accepting new members and welcome all
inquiries. The Garden Club R.F.D. is a member of the Garden Club of
New Jersey, the Central Atlantic Region of State Garden Clubs, Inc. and
the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
