Fund Established to
for Veterans’ Pets
The Brodie Fund is excited to announce
the launch of Brodie’s
Phoenix Fund. The Brodie Fund is
a Rumson-based, registered 501(c)3
nonprot that raises money to offer
nancial assistance, through grants,
to families who have pets ghting cancer.
Radiation, chemotherapy, surgery
a
and hospice care become possible. No pet
should face economic euthanasia in the ght
of their lives because of the owner’s inability to pay.
The Brodie Fund knows that they are not just pets, but they are family.
The Phoenix Fund is designed specically to help veterans’ pets ght cancer.
The grants awarded give the gift of time to veterans, who have given so
much to our country, and their four-legged family members.
The Phoenix Fund is named in memory of a veteran’s service dog
who bravely fought cancer.
Jt served his country
in the Army on active
duty for about eight
years. He was injured in
combat and received a
Purple Heart. Diagnosed
with PTSD and other signi
cant health issues, his
physician recommended
he get a service dog.
Phoenix intervened when
Jt attempted suicide.
Jt is now a veterans
program coordinator and
peer specialist at a recovery
Phoenix and Jt
center in Wisconsin helping other veterans. Phoenix was diagnosed
with a brain tumor in December 2019. Jt reached out to The Brodie Fund
whose staff was eager to help. They reached out to Marisol Thomas and her
nonprot, the Sidewalk Angels Foundation. Together, they were able to fund
Phoenix’s radiation treatment. Sadly, Phoenix passed away on Feb. 13.
The Phoenix Fund was established to help veterans like Jt who have
pets diagnosed with cancer.
