Annual Summer Celebration to Award Academic Scholarships
One of the most beloved events of
the summer season is the Jersey
Shore Partnership’s (JSP) Summer
Celebration, returning again to Fort Hancock,
Sandy Hook on Monday, Sept. 14.
The event is the major fundraiser
for the JSP, which is New Jersey’s leading
advocate for state and federal funding to
protect and preserve New Jersey’s 127-
mile coastline that annually generates a
$20 billion tourism economy and brings
in millions of federal dollars in a cost-sharing
partnership with the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers.
This year, there is an exciting new addition to this wonderful evening of
food, music and fun on the coastline. Jersey Shore Partnership Chairman John
Gagliano announced the JSP Foundation will award a $5,000 scholarship to
one student from Monmouth University and one from Stevens Institute of Technology
studying marine science and coastal resiliency.
“The partnership recognizes the necessity for involving young adults in
our shared responsibility to ensure the future sustainability of our coast,” Gagliano
said. “Establishing academic scholarships for college students engaged in
the elds of marine science reects the partnership’s mission and establishes a
legacy for a new generation of coastal advocates.”
The scholarships are for the 2020-21 academic year and will be funded
from a percentage of the net proceeds of the annual Summer Celebration. In
addition to an endless buffet of food prepared by more than 25 restaurants and

vendors, many with seafood contributed by New Jersey sheries and distributors,
the event brings together corporate leaders, nonprots, environmentalists,
academics and elected ofcials.
In addition to the new scholarships, the evening will honor outstanding
individuals/organizations that are contributing to the economy and the quality
of life in New Jersey and at the Jersey Shore. The 2020 honorees are Atlanti-
Care, a member of Geisinger; OceanFirst Bank; and SUEZ. Dinner chairs are
Valerie and Frank Montecalvo, Bayshore/Montecalvo Family of Companies and
the 2019 honorees.
Joining this group under the big tent will be Brian Kirk and the Jirks and
a spectacular view of sunset over Sandy Hook Bay.
