Live Streams Classes
for Those at Home
BY JULIA MORTIMER
Are your kids bouncing off the walls and in need of a creative
outlet? Art Kaney, aka “Doodle Dude,” a seasoned performing
cartoonist and art instructor at the Middletown Arts Center, has
found a creative and engaging way to interact with kids, all while get-
at 1 pm, viewers of all ages can tune into entertaining doodle lessons
led by Doodle Dude. Each live video can be found on the Middletown
Arts Center Facebook page and are available on YouTube as well.
“We aren’t looking for normalcy,” Kaney said. “We’re just looking
for an outlet to do our thing.”
Doodle Dude had strayed away from posting online content of
himself for years because he wasn’t comfortable with it. But once he
was unable to teach his classes at the Middletown Arts Center, he posted
a video of himself teaching doodles on Facebook.
“It had become time I got over myself and just got on camera,” he
said.
And it was a good thing he did because the responses to each live
stream have been overwhelmingly positive. Each video, edited by Mark
DiSciullo, is about 20 minutes long. Within that time, Doodle Dude introduces
an artist or an aspect of pop culture, all while doodling.
Surmounting hundreds of views per live stream, Doodle Dude is
-
esting.
“I try to keep it short and simple to appeal to young and old,”
Kaney said.
He also works to be gender neutral to appeal to all.
“COVID-19 has really brought me to new horizons,” Kaney said. “I
am really grateful.”
