In the world of garden clubs in the U.S., members have seen all local, state
and national meetings canceled and now some events are going virtual. The
National Garden Clubs had planned to have the Perfect Vision 2020 Petite
Horticulture Specialty Flower Show at their National Garden Club annual meet-
However, President of National Garden Clubs Gay L. Austin assembled a
Club Flower Show as there is no provision for non-face-to-face judging.
This virtual event is titled “The Perfect Vision Flower Show.” In the area of
horticulture, specimens will be photographed in prescribed ways and submitted
by mid-June for judging. In the area of design, entries featuring an underwater
element or transparency will be created, photographed and submitted. A third
area for botanical arts and artistic crafts will feature a section wherein members
can decorate an outdoor seat.
Hopefully, this will bring some normalcy to local garden club members
who have developed their skills in the areas needed for submission. They bring
much beauty into the world, and as we enter the summer months, it is hoped
Clean Ocean Action’s Virtual Spring Student Summit

Each spring, Clean Ocean Action (COA) hosts
its Spring Student Summit at Sandy Hook,
part of Gateway National Park. It’s a fun
and educational way for school age children to
begin building loyalty to defending the oceans.
The event was held the week of May 11, but this
year, in an effort to respond responsibly to the
numerous COVID-19 restrictions in place, the
program moved to the virtual world with 500
students from 25 different schools throughout

northern and central New Jersey joining in the experience. Though the attendees couldn’t
